LAS VEGAS — Former champ (and opponent of mine) Michael Nunn calls me at the designated time this past Saturday in Las Vegas at my fifth Official Amateur Boxing Reunion (held at Russ Anber’s Rival Boxing Store on Sunset Road) so that I can put him on the phone with his former professional opponent (they fought in 1986) Alex “The Bronx Bomber” Ramos.

I also put Michael on the phone that day with 1984 Olympic Champion Paul Gonzalez and former world title opponent Merqui Sosa.

Gavronski lands his jab.

TACOMA, WA — Super middleweight prospect Mike “Imagine Me” Gavronski (22-2-1, 14 KOs) continued his career resurgence on Saturday night at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Washington, adding a second consecutive win to his twenty-two fight win column, thoroughly out-boxing Accra, Ghana’s Thomas Awimbono (25-5-1, 21 KOs) over ten rounds in the main event of Brian Halquist Productions’ “Battle at the Boat 108″.

¬†Gavronski used his jab and lateral movement to set the range early in the fight, patiently working at a distance and picking off Awimbono with occasional straight right hands as the Ghanaian pressed forward. Maintaining a steady pace, Gavronski easily racked up points in the first half of the fight, keeping the aggressive minded Awimbono at the end of his punches. (continue reading…)
