LAS VWEGAS – In front of a packed house at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and live on HBO Pay-Per-View, Andre “S.O.G.” Ward (31-0, 15 KOs)* won a close unanimous decision victory over Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev (30-1-1, 26 KOs) to steal the WBO, WBA and IBF Light Heavyweight World Titles in a decision that most ringside media thought went the wrong way.

Both fighters were feeling each other out in the first two rounds. The Krusher continued his come-forward attack and knocked Andre down in the second. Ward managed to get up quickly and took several hard shots from Sergey before the bell rang to end the second round. The next several rounds included heavy shots from both fighters and some wrestling-style moments. The majority of the rounds were hard-fought and close. Many writers had the decision going to the other way but all three judges scored the bout 114-113 in favor of Ward. (continue reading…)

Coming off an impressive sixth round knockout win over previously unbeaten Australian prospect Jake Carr just two months ago, Mike “Imagine Me” Gavronski (21-2-1, 14 KOs) will look to keep his renewed momentum going on Saturday night at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Washington, taking on Accra, Ghana’s Thomas Awimbono (25-4-1, 21 KOs) in the main event of Brian Halquist Productions’ “Battle at the Boat 108″.

Gavronski’s win over Carr in September marked his first fight back since losing to Dashon Johnson last November in a bid for the WBA-NABA US 168 lbs. title, only the second loss of his career. Prior to that, Gavronksi had racked up a six fight win streak, rebounding from a 2014 decision loss to current top middleweight world title contender Tureano Johnson for the vacant WBC Continental Americas middleweight belt. The popular Tacoma native, who recently cracked the WBC rankings at #39, looked sharp in his most recent bout, a product of having spent his training camp outside of his home state of Washington, working with Eddie Rivas in San Antonio, Texas. He’s done the same in preparation for the tough Ghanaian fighter.  (continue reading…)

At long last undefeated Light Heavyweights Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev face off in mouth watering superfight

LAS VEGAS — November, 18, 2016 – It is really happening live tomorrow at T Mobile live on HBO PPV under the bright lights of Las Vegas. This is truly both a casual and a die-hard boxing fan dream fight pitting the classic slugging destroyer in Sergey Kovalev vs the intelligent ring smith in Andre Ward.

Of course each man on the surface level reads as the aforementioned boxing archetypes but each possesses nuance and style from other camps. Sergey displayed great boxing intelligence, timing and ring craft in his dismantling of Bernard Hopkins in late 2014. Sure some critics like to point out that “Hopkins was 50 years old”, but with the exception of the two men competing tomorrow night that 50 year old man would probably still dominate the light heavyweight division. As for Andre Ward, we have seen him frequently break from the safety first tactical distance fighter to rough opponents up at close quarters with a wrestling grappling style that has yet to be solved by any fighter Ward has faced.

OXNARD, CA – The premiere of Mohegan Sun’s Rising Stars Boxing Series on Nov. 26 at the Uncas Ballroom at Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut will feature junior middleweight prospect Virgilijus “The Terminator” Stapulionis’s (18-3-1, 13 KOs) first main event in the United States since his US debut back in 2015.
