PORTLAND, ORE – “We got our historic [boxing] ring ripped off this weekend,” said Fred Ryan, manager of the historic Grand Avenue Boxing Club.

“It was [stored] in a dual axle trailer at our gym,” he continued. “We thought it was secure with locks on the hitch, as well as the rear and side door. Not to be – it went missing.”

According to Fox 12 Oregon (kptv.com), Portland Police say that the theft occurred this last weekend.

The stolen boxing ring was used by boxing celebrities such as Roy Jones, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Ronald “Winky” Wright, and Bronco McCart, says Ryan.

“It’s a major loss to us. We [used it for] the Golden Gloves and Diamond Belt, as well as numerous club shows and smokers. We are devastated.” Ryan said. “We’d like the ring returned.”

Established in 1949, Grand Avenue Boxing Gym moved from its original location on Grand Avenue to 8333 N.E. Russell in 2000. Having managed the gym since 1990, Ryan sees the missing boxing ring as an irreplaceable icon that saw them through some lean years.

“It was our survival item that supported us, our platform for events to help keep our gym open over the bad years, he said. “Please help us.”
