CHICAGO, IL (April 10, 2012) Former world title challenger Edner “Cherry Bomb” Cherry returns to Chicago this Saturday night, April 14th in the ten round main event against Juan Carlos “EL Pez” Martinez at Cicero Stadium.

Presented by Dominic Pesoli’s 8 Count Productions and Warriors Boxing, the junior lightweight clash will be broadcast LIVE across North America on Solo Boxeo Tecate.

The 29-year-old Cherry, training in Florida under the watchful eye of heralded trainer Tony Morgan, brings a record of 29-6-2 (16KO’s) into battle. The native of the Bahamas made his Chicago debut on February 24th besting crafty Puerto Rican southpaw Guillermo Sanchez over eight rounds despite suffering a first round knockdown.

Speaking about his fight against Sanchez, Cherry stated, “He caught me with a solid punch in the first round. I wasn’t so much hurt as surprised but got up and went right back to work” winning by scores of 77-74 and 76-75 (twice).

“I’m glad to be back in the ring so quickly, I had been off for a while before the Sanchez fight and needed to shake off some ring rust. Southpaws are always more difficult so I’m glad that I’m facing an orthodox fighter like myself this time.”

Against Martinez, 19-13-1 (7KO’s), Cherry will be facing a native of San Luis Potosi, Mexico, who has traveled to Chicago five times with four wins and one draw, including two victories over then highly heralded prospect Jaime Sandoval.

In his last outing in Chicago in September 2009, the popular Martinez won a ten round unanimous decision over Chicago fan favorite and longtime contender Jose Hernandez.

Martinez also holds a win over former world title challenger Bernabe Concepcion in Las Vegas, taking an eight round decision on May 6, 2011.

However Martinez’s accolades did not impress Cherry. “The ring rust is off, I’ve had a terrific camp and I’m ready to get this win and step up to the next one.”

Advance tickets, priced at $30, $50, $75 and $100; for SOLO BOXEO TECATE can be purchased through the 8 Count Productions’ office by calling 312-226-5800. Cicero Stadium is located at 1909 S. Laramie; doors on the night of the event will open at 7pm with the first bell at 8pm.
