Chicago based Lithuanian middleweight hopes to fight on national TV again

CHICAGO, IL, September 12, 2013 — Promising Chicago based Lithuanian middleweight Donatas Bondas (17-4-1, 6 KOs) returns to the ring against Rockford’s tough Skylar Thompson (12-7, 10 KOs tomorrow night in Hammond, IN during Hitz Boxing’s “Fight Night at the Horseshoe.” It’s Bondas’ first appearance since his spectacular ESPN “Friday Night Fights” in which he lost to Brian Vera thanks to a controversial stoppage by referee Charlie Fitch, who claimed that Bondas told him he couldn’t see anymore, both Bondas and promoter Bobby Hitz dispute that.

“Donatas impressed everyone in the arena, and at home. He earned a lot of respect that night and would have won had the fight not been stopped,” said Hitz. “Its unfortunate that Fitch decided to hand this fight to Vera with that ridiculous stoppage. If this fight ends differently Bondas might have have gotten a shot at Chavez instead of Vera.”

Brian Vera is scheduled to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr on September 28 as the main event during HBO’s World Championship Boxing event in Carson, CA.

“Donatas is working hard and hopes to be back in front of a national TV audience soon. Thompson is a tough opponent, but Donatas is prepared, ” said Hitz.

Thompson beat Rodney Freeman by technical knockout in his last outing in August of last year

Tickets can be purchased at or The Venue box office.
