San Francisco CA  –  Live on Golden Boys “GoldenBoyLive!” series of fights broadcast exclusively on Fox Sports 1, Mercito “ No Mercy” Gesta (27-1-1, 15 Kos) of San Diego by way of Cebu, Phillipines will engage in a 10 round Lightweight bout with Tijuana’s tough veteran Luis “El Vampiro” arceo (28-12-4. 19 Kos) who has fought a who’s who of top contendors throughout his 14 year career.

The Bout is taking place at the historic Longshoremen’s Hall located in one of the hugest tourist attractions in the world San Francisco’s “Fisherman’s Wharf” atop a stacked card featuring many local upcoming prospects from around the Bay Area. In one of the most compelling and intriguing bouts of the evening, 6’11 Chinese heavyweight giant Taishan Dong known simply as “Taishan” or by his amazing nickname “The man with the knockout punch” is making his professional boxing debut  in the televised opener.

Mercito is looking to get back into title contention after losing a wide unanimous decision in an IBF lightweight title bid to current belt holder Miguel Vasquez in December of 2012. After taking nearly a year and a half off Mercito grabbed a confidence building win in his hometown  in April of this year pounding out an 8th round TKO over tough Mexican journeyman Edgar Riovalle. Mercito seemed to return to his fan friendly style that had been missing in his world title bid. Luis, The Vampire, Arceo will be a stern test as he has been in with Josesito Lopez, Anthony Peterson and Urbano Antillon and most recently in a kayo loss in his last fight to knockout artist Jose Zepeda.  Whether Arceo’s chin will be a factor in this bout is a mystery as he only seems to get stopped by really big punchers.

In the co-feature San Francisco’s own Jonathan “El Carismatico” Chicas (13-1, 6 Kos) will tangle with Undefeated San Diego southpaw Emanuel “Renegade” Robles (10 -0-1. 3 Kos) in an 8 round Junior Welterweight contest.  Jonathan is on a 5 fight winning streak and looks to impress in front of his local fans as well as introduce himself to a wider audience on TV, Emanuel of course will try to thwart these plans and is coming to stay undefeated.

Also in action on July 18 will be some of the Bay Area’s finest fighters, including San Francisco’s Ricardo Pinell, a southpaw middleweight with an impressive 8-1-1, 6 KOs record; San Jose’s unbeaten Andy “The Shark” Vences (7-0, 3 KOs) and Arturo Quintero (15-4-1, 9 KOs); Hayward featherweight Benjamin Briceno (3-1); as well as the pro debut of San Carlos’ Fabian Melendez and Filipino phenom Joel Slapno of San Leandro.

Stay tuned for the full report from yours truly after I take in the action Ringside on Friday, July 18th!
