A heavily stacked Pro-Am card is slated to take place at the Indian Head Casino in Warm Springs, Oregon Saturday, October 4th. The show, which is being put together by Warm Springs Nation Boxing’s Austin Smith and matchmaker Fred Ryan, will be the first for the fairly new casino and will feature some of the Pacific Northwest’s best up-and-comers.

Boxing has had a long standing tradition in the Warm Springs area with the Warm Springs Nation having had a boxing team dating back to 1948. Their hosting of the legendary Buck Skin Boxing Tournaments in the 70′s and 80′s were known throughout the west coast and helped mold many amateur regional talents. With support from people like Austin Smith, who runs the local boxing team, the area has been rekindling that interest for the sport that was once so prevalent in the area.

Warm Springs Nation boxing recently held the first ever pro sanctioned card to take place in Warm Springs, a Pro-Am show in July of this year that drew a large crowd and featured some great local talent. Hopes are that with the growing local support, Warm Springs can become a destination for good, solid boxing events.

Eight total pro fights and six amateur fights featuring some great match-ups are expected to be on this card.

In a very interesting featured match-up, Zillah, Washington’s Juan Esquivel looks to keep his 4-0 4KOs undefeated streak alive. His most recent bout was in Warm Springs in July, a second round TKO. The crafty, hard-hitting heavyweight will be taking on Portland, Oregon’s Robert Brown.

Osvaldo “Waldo” Rojas is also expected to see action, although an opponent has not been locked down yet. Rojas is a well-known, longtime northwest favorite who is always puts on a good show. He also last fought in Warm Springs, scoring a second round knockout over Ryan Phillips.

In a six round welterweight fight, Tacoma’s Guillermo Delgadillo will be taking on Yakima’s Ryan Phillips. Delgadillo is another fighter who is known for making great fights among northwest fight fans. His most recent fight, a four round loss to Ricardo Maldonado, was a back and forth slugfest. Phillips, who is proving to be a tough competitor, willing to step in with anyone at a moment’s notice, is also coming off a loss in his last fight. Stylistically these two fighters stack up well against each other. Both are rangy fighters that also do well in close and have no problem standing and trading. This should be a good fight.

Another scheduled match-up that promises to be an interesting fight will pit Portland, Oregon’s Sammy Perez against Corbin Page, of Eugene, Oregon. Both are well skilled fighters that have a propensity for finding themselves in close, trading heavy leather. Page last fought September 5th, taking a hard fought decision victory over Rob Diezel in Ferndale, Washington. Perez, meanwhile, last saw action in January when he won a four round decision over Guadalupe Hudgins in Shelton, Washington. This match-up has war written all over it.

Local fans will have the opportunity to see local fighter Jasper Smith make his pro debut in front of his home town supporters. He will be taking on Portland’s Jesus Morales, who is also making his pro debut.

Other fighters that may see action on the card are Virgil Green and Gabriel Pineda, although nothing has been solidified with them and no opponents have been found yet.

Six amateur bouts featuring local talent will round out the rest of the card.

Tickets to the event are priced at a very reasonable $20 and $25 and can be purchased at the casino. The Indian Head Casino is owned and operated by the Confederated Tribes Warm Springs and is located at 3236 Hwy 26, Warm Springs, OR 97761 just 2 hours South Portland and one hour North of Bend.
