Houston Boxing Prospect Of The Month: Carmen Vargas

by on Oct.24, 2014, under Boxing News

Marquez Boxing Gym featherweight Carmen Vargas has been named the October prospect of the month for the Bayou City. This award is presented by the editorial staff of the cyberboxingzone (the first and most respected historical boxing website on the internet) and it encompasses both professional and amateur fighters.

Vargas is currently ranked Number 5 in the nation at 125 lbs. by USA Boxing and has compiled a record of 17 – 3 with several TKO’s to her credit. She is trained by Arturo Marquez, the father of former IBF light middleweight champion Raul “El Diamante” Marquez.

Vargas has made significant strides this calendar year by winning some high profile local tournaments and is developing nicely. But her trainers have found it somewhat of a difficult situation to keep their young charge as active as they would like her to be.

This is due in large part to local female fighters being afraid to face her as they have become intimidated after seeing this young slugger in action. More than a few local area boxers have pulled out of scheduled contests with her and/or have refused to face Vargas altogether.

Vargas is an aggressive puncher that has a bright future but is definitely a work in progress. She is a tenacious fighter and diligent trainer who never misses a gym session and possesses a lot of confidence in her strength and abilities.

Vargas and her trainer will hit the road for the 2nd Annual National Brown Gloves Invitational Boxing Championships that will be held in Dallas on November 1st and 2nd. We wish this young gladiator continued and future success.
