MERRIONETTE PARK, IL — On Friday August 19th at the Bourbon Street night club in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, the second annual Chicago Boxer’s Reunion will convene. The reunion is the brainchild of former Chicago amateur sensation Vince ‘Rock’ Hudson, who has organized the reunion in his efforts to bring together these great combatants from pug-alley who have lost touch with one another for one rocking hash session.

Not to be confused with some members only event, this reunion is open to not only the fighter, but also the announcers, the officials, the writers and of course the fan of Chicago boxing.

Hudson, who is now a Videographer who calls Bakersfield, Calif., home, explains the thoughts behind the event.

“Every year around this time I would come back to Chicago to visit family and I would give some of my old boxing buddies a call to get together. And everybody showed up. This went on until I thought of expanding it and connected with so many ex-fighters on Facebook that last year I held the first organized event in Greektown. It had such a great turnout that we’re going to do it again. Moreso, because of the recent passing of Terry McGroom and Sean Curtin, the flag has been raised that life is so short. So it is vital we keep this going, and the only thing I ask of the fighter is that we each reach out to Chicago youth and help at least one kid. Because that’s where it all begins.”

This year’s event has already been notified of the attendance of such past stars as LeeRoy Murphy, Alfonso Ratliff, Montell Griffin, Oliver McCall, Joey Ruiz and so many others that I will not miss it for the world.

Hope to see all this Friday beginning at 6:00 pm at Bourbon St., 3359 W. 115th St. in Merrionette Park, IL.
