New Faces in Boxing: Brandi ‘Babi Doll’ Montoya

Each month the CBZ will honor one fighter, past or present, that has served in the United States military. Our inaugural Active Duty member to be recognized is Camp Pendleton’s Corporal Brandi Montoya of the United States Marine Corps.

Originally hailing from Los Lunas, New Mexico, Montoya is a tough and aggressive bantamweight southpaw that has compiled a 5 -2 professional ring ledger and is set to make her return in front of her home base in Albuquerque, New Mexico on April 11 against an opponent and venue TBA. Pushed to the Brink: Ashley Alvarado vs. Brandi Montoya

36765_432479296263_631971263_5716277_4354514_nHOUSTON, TX, August 10, 2011 — This past Thursday in Houston, super flyweight Ashley Alvarado (4-0, 2 KO’s) won a four round unanimous decision over a part time fighter and kick boxer southpaw Brandi Montoya (0-2) at former middleweight contender Akondaye Fountain’s Calm Before The Storm boxing promotional card that was held at the Rio Grande Hall on Telephone Road.  The location brought back fond memories of my childhood in the late 60′s when Houston was the hustling and bustling space capital of the world, and Hobby airport was the sole airport in the city.  Telephone Road was the swinging avenue of south Houston, and heavyweight contender Cleveland “Big Cat” Williams ruled both the prize ring and the streets during this period.
