Thoughts on Last Friday’s ESPN Friday Night Fighters

Chris Henry’s idea of defending against an incoming right hand is to stick his face in its direction.  Henry faced Shaun George, fresh off his last big victory over former heavyweight champion Chris Byrd. George dominated Byrd with both boxing skills and power as he knocked the former heavyweight down three times before ending the fight.
 
In the first round, Henry did what Henry did:  block incoming rights with his face.  For nearly three minutes, George had target practice as he nailed Henry with one right after another.   Henry staggered through the second half of the round as he kept getting punched. What George failed to do was to follow those massive rights with a properly placed left hook, which as ESPN’s Ted Atlas observed, “Would give George an early night.”  As the first round ended, Henry slowly drifted back to his corner.  (continue reading…)

Chris ‘Hard Hittin” Henry Annihilates Shaun George

The Arena in Philadelphia:  Any hopes that ESPN2 had of Making Shaun George one of their marquee fighters came crashing down in front of Joe Tessitore and Teddy Atlas Friday night as the dynamic punching light heavyweight contender from Houston, Chris “Hard Hittin’” Henry destroyed the Brooklynite with a brutal sixth round knockout defeat in front of an international viewing audience for all of the boxing world to see.

George had posted several home made videos on the “Youtube” website the past few weeks, proclaiming that Chris Henry was a “dead man” come July 10th on ESPN 2, the same network on which George had stopped a completely washed up, dehydrated, and shell of his former self, former heavyweight title claimant Chris Byrd last year. Shaun George Video Diary & Weigh-In Results

BROOKLYN – The third and final installment of Shaun George’s Video Diary can be seen below.  Shaun George will face Chris Henry on July 10 at The Arena in Philadelphia, PA in a ten round light-heavyweight bout that will be aired on ESPN2′s Friday Night Fights.

 

At the Thursday weigh-in for the fight, George weighed in at 176.5 on the first attempt, a pound and a half under the 178 pound contract weight. Henry initially came in heavy at 180 pounds and was given two hours to make the weight. He came back an hour later and weighed in at 177 pounds. (continue reading…)
