Andre Ward TKO’s Sergey Kovalev in round 8 of a shocker!

LAS VEGAS, NV, June, 17, 2017 – I couldn’t find a more apt word for what Andre Ward was able to accomplish on Saturday night over his most bitter rival Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev. Andre Ward isn’t known for stopping anyone –especially A level fighters.

When referee Tony Weeks stepped in and waived the fight over midway through the 8th round I jumped out of my seat in disbelief.  It was truly shocking to see. (continue reading…)

Joe Smith Spoils Bernard Hopkins Final Fight, Knocking the Legend Out of the Ring

by on Dec.19, 2016, under Boxing News

Story by Christopher Morgan at ringside

LOS ANGELES, CA, December, 17, 2016 – Bernard Hopkins and Golden Boy promotions decided to develop and promote one final send-off to one of boxing’s most enduring legends. Over the last 28 years, Bernard Hopkins has been involved in and won the majority of his fights against the best fighters between 160 and 170 pounds.

The majority of the time Hopkins was an underdog in the eyes of the media and fans; before he relished in making a fool of everyone who doubted him. (continue reading…)

Las Vegas, NV, November, 19, 2016 – We the people were led to believe we were going to watch a non-stop pressuring destroyer in Sergey Kovalev go up against a master defensive tactician in Andre Ward. We were wondering whether Kovalev was as good as his record indicated and if so whether it would be enough to overcome the ring intelligence and versatility of Ward. At the end of 12 nail biting rounds Sergey Kovalevs status was validated and even elevated as he arguably was the better boxer in the fight. Andre Ward who was wobbled badly by a jab from Kovalev in the first and dropped hard in the second round from a short right hook was never able to take over the fight or maintain control for long stretches like he has done with all past opponents.

After the first two rounds and the aforementioned knockdown, Andre appeared to be fighting scared, backing up while not throwing anything for fear of what was coming in return, Kovalevs jab repeatedly disrupted the early rounds attack from Ward as well stopping Ward in his tracks several times. By the 4th round Kovalev had discovered something that all past opponents had failed to, he was aware of when Ward was going to initiate a clinch, anticipated it and was able to gain the upper hand either through a headlock or by having one punching arm free. Round 5 went to Kovalev who was fighting very calmly using intelligent patient pressure but always moving forward and throwing. Ward landed his best punch of the fight in the 5th round a flashing piston of a right hand, Kovalev didn’t appear to be bothered by the punch. (continue reading…)

At long last undefeated Light Heavyweights Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev face off in mouth watering superfight

LAS VEGAS — November, 18, 2016 – It is really happening live tomorrow at T Mobile live on HBO PPV under the bright lights of Las Vegas. This is truly both a casual and a die-hard boxing fan dream fight pitting the classic slugging destroyer in Sergey Kovalev vs the intelligent ring smith in Andre Ward.

Of course each man on the surface level reads as the aforementioned boxing archetypes but each possesses nuance and style from other camps. Sergey displayed great boxing intelligence, timing and ring craft in his dismantling of Bernard Hopkins in late 2014. Sure some critics like to point out that “Hopkins was 50 years old”, but with the exception of the two men competing tomorrow night that 50 year old man would probably still dominate the light heavyweight division. As for Andre Ward, we have seen him frequently break from the safety first tactical distance fighter to rough opponents up at close quarters with a wrestling grappling style that has yet to be solved by any fighter Ward has faced.

LOS ANGELES, CA, April, 23, 2016 — Reigning Middleweight king and kayo artist Gennady “GGG” Golovkin extended his consecutive knockout streak to 22 while simultaneously making the 16th defense of his middleweight title. Gennady’s challenger, undefeated Dominic Wade, was given opportunities to provide a “big drama show”, but it did little to prevent his quick and utter destruction in less than 2 rounds of boxing. The fans were out in full force in an announced crowd of around 17,000.  I was in attendance as well so please read along as I give my firsthand impression of Triple G’s latest fistic conquest.

Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 Kos) of Largo, Maryland, is assembled with his entourage near the tunnel leading from the dressing room and the crowd lets him know who they are here for by showering the arena with thousands of boos. The timelessly famous song, “1999”, from the recently deceased artist “Prince” pumps through the arena while Wade makes his walk to the ring. Sam Watson, business partner of Al Haymon, yells to the crowd “Golovkin’s gonna be scared when he gets in the ring with Dominic!” (continue reading…)
