LAS VEGAS, NV, January 17, 2014 — Former World Champion and Mexican boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez returns to the ring on Saturday, March 8 to face the fierce and rugged Alfredo “El Perro” Angulo in the headline attraction of a stacked four-fight event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, presented live on SHOWTIME PPV®.

Promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, the pay-per-view card offers matchups that promise to be exciting, all-action bouts. The most anticipated match of the night features Canelo, as he looks to reassert himself as the best young fighter of this era. Rounding out the card are three outstanding 12-round world title fights: Two-Division World Champion Leo “Terremoto” Santa Cruz (27-0-1, 15 KO’s) will defend his WBC Super Bantamweight World Title against former Two-Time World Champion Cristian “El Diamante” Mijares (49-7-2, 24 KO’s); exciting young star Omar “Panterita” Figueroa (24-0-1, 17 KO’s) will risk his WBC Interim Lightweight Title against Canelo’s brother Ricardo “Dinamita” Alvarez (23-2-3, 14 KO’s) and “King” Carlos Molina (22-5-2, 6 KO’s) will defend his IBF Junior Middleweight Championship against undefeated Jermall Charlo (17-0, 13 KO’s). Interim WBA Bantamweight Champion Nehomar Cermeño returns against Cristian Mijares on July 11 in Laredo, Texas.  Cermeño beat Mijares by split-decision on March 14, and remains unbeaten in 17 bouts.

The bout was locked up after Anselmo Moreno, the WBA Bantamweight Champion, scheduled a July 4 defense against Mahyar Monshipour in France.

The rationale behind an interim title bout in this instance eludes this reporter.
