HOUSTON, TX — The results are in for this year’s Houston Boxing Hall of Fame inductions.

The former WBA and WBO Bantanweight Champion originally from Laredo was a destructive body puncher and frenetic fighting machine that compiled a record of 48-8-1 with 36 knockouts. Canizales took Jeff Chandler 15 hard fought rounds his first world title opportunity, but came up on the short end of a unanimous decision loss. But on March 10, 1986, Gaby pulled off the upset when he knocked then WBA Bantamweight titleholder Richie Sandoval out at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas to capture his first professional world championship. History repeated itself again on Mach 12, 1991 when he knocked out Miguel “Happy” Lora in the second round of a knockdown filled abbreviated punch out to capture the vacant WBO Bantamweight Championship in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
