ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — Edner “Cherry Bomb” Cherry (30-6-2) meets recent world title challenger, Vincente Escobedo, 26-4 on the undercard of the Adrien Broner/Gavin Rees World Title fight, Saturday, February 16th in Atlantic City. The Jr. Lightweight bout is scheduled for 10 rounds.

Amateur Boxing Event to Help Raise Money for Military Families

Support military families, July 4th weekend and join us for a FREE Charity Boxing Match for the Troops, Tuesday, July 3rd. The event is open to the public and will be held at Great Lakes Naval Base – Ross Field, Waukegan, IL. All proceeds will benefit the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society and Jordan’s Corner, a boxing and fitness program for children with special needs. First bout starts at 3:30pm.
Several top, Chicago area and local boxers will be participating from Chicago and area boxing clubs, including Warehouse Gym in Highland Park, the largest boxing gym in the Chicago area. Warehouse is one of several area businesses’ that are donating to this worthwhile cause.

Cherry Overpowers Martinez, Granados Flattens Guevara in Cicero!

CICERO, Ill., April 14, 2012 – It took all ten rounds to do it, but tonight, Wauchula, Florida’s Edner “The Cherry Bomb” Cherry (132 lbs., 29-6-2, 16 KO’s) overcame the guile and awkward punching of Chicago’s gutsy – and slippery – Juan Carlos Martinez, whose spotty record of 18-13-1 and four knockouts belies a penchant for tackling top flight competition nearly every time out.
Martinez, the local spoiler, receives loud cheers from the crowd (perhaps 1,000 strong, most of whom are working class Mexicans) upon entering the ring, while loud boos overwhelm scattered applause greeting Cherry. Clearly, Martinez is fit, but ordinary-looking and smaller, whereas Cherry’s upper body packs muscles that seem hewn from dark mahogany. (continue reading…)
