CARSON, CA — On Saturday, April 26th, the hard-slugging 25 year-old Interim World Boxing Association Welterweight Title Holder Keith Thurman (22-0, 20 KO’s) faces former International Boxing Federation Lightweight Champion Julio Diaz (40-9-1, 29 KO’s) in a big step up bout.  Although Diaz is 34 years old, he gave the red hot IBF Welterweight Champion Shawn Porter great difficulty in two previous battles, garnering a draw in 2012 and losing by unanimous decision in September 2013, as well as knocking down former World Lightweight Champion and prospective future Floyd Mayweather opponent Amir Khan in losing by unanimous decision in April 2013.  Our very own Christopher Morgan will be covering the battle for the Cyber Boxing Zone.

“I expect Diaz to fight his heart out. He says he plans to knock me out,” says Thurman. “I don’t know if that’s fight hype or his strategy, but I’ll be ready. I want guys who come to fight. I want to make and be in the best fights. On my record I have an ‘O’ but I’m not afraid to let it go.” (continue reading…)

As is the nature in boxing, for the championship hopes of one fighter to be elevated, most often the hopes of another must be stifled. Such was the case last Friday night at the Little Creek Casino in Shelton, Washington as undefeated Andrey Klimov defeated the resurging John Molina Jr. via a close ten round majority decision, placing himself in line for a title shot while slowing the progress of the once highly tauted Molina.

In the headline bout of the ESPN Friday Night Fights televised card, Klimovsk, Russia’s Klimov (16-0 8KO’s 137.5 lbs.), and Covina, California’s Molina (25-3 20KO’s 137.5 lbs.) delivered a closely fought, back and forth fight, with both combatants having their moments. Early on in the bout it was Klimov’s jab and quick lateral movement that dictated the pace of the fight. For the first three rounds Klimov moved in and out of the pocket and fired off hard right hands to the chin, tying his opponent up when he got to close. Molina pressed forward, but seemed confused as to how to shorten the gap and stay close enough to do damage. (continue reading…)

ward_dawson_1 Andre Ward celebrates his dominating victory.

OAKLAND, CA, September, 08, 2012 – Andre Ward continued to improve and show new dimensions in style and temperament in his most impressive victory to date as he executed an absolutely savage and relentless beat down against the hapless Chad Dawson, eventually ending matters in the 10th round.

The packed house of 8500 heartily booed “Bad” Chad Dawson of New Haven, Connecticut (31-1-0, 17 kos) as he was the first to enter the ring. Chad was all business and no theatrics as he walked briskly to the ring looking big, strong, and confident.  The entire arena rose their feet for native son Andre “S.O.G.” Ward’s (25-0-0, 13 kos) ring walk and stayed on their feet for the entire duration of introductions showing their love for the local phenom.
