Cherry Overpowers Martinez, Granados Flattens Guevara in Cicero!

CICERO, Ill., April 14, 2012 – It took all ten rounds to do it, but tonight, Wauchula, Florida’s Edner “The Cherry Bomb” Cherry (132 lbs., 29-6-2, 16 KO’s) overcame the guile and awkward punching of Chicago’s gutsy – and slippery – Juan Carlos Martinez, whose spotty record of 18-13-1 and four knockouts belies a penchant for tackling top flight competition nearly every time out.
Martinez, the local spoiler, receives loud cheers from the crowd (perhaps 1,000 strong, most of whom are working class Mexicans) upon entering the ring, while loud boos overwhelm scattered applause greeting Cherry. Clearly, Martinez is fit, but ordinary-looking and smaller, whereas Cherry’s upper body packs muscles that seem hewn from dark mahogany. (continue reading…)
