CHICAGO, June 18, 2016 — He was a crude banger whose record was built on nobodies, in nothing towns, and across the ring was the established king — a future hall of famer — who’d battered and nearly knocked out Muhammad Ali nearly two years earlier. However, this didn’t stop a young George Foreman from bludgeoning Joe Frazier into submission that night in Kingston, Jamaica in January 1973.

Fast forward to tonight at the UIC Pavilion. Although Joe Smith, Jr. was a well decorated amateur (he won the 2008 New York Golden Gloves with a victory over Seanie Monaghan) he is no George Foreman (who won the Gold Medal at the 1968 Olympics as an amateur), but he’s a heavy handed slugger with a record of 21-1 with 17 knockouts against second rate opposition. Tonight, he’s facing Andrzej Fonfara, an established contender who dropped and went the distance in losing a decision for Adonis Stevenson’s WBC title in May 2014 and stopped the former WBC Middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in April 2015. This should be a no-brainer.

Only it’s not. (continue reading…)

CHICAGO, December 12, 2014 — There were thrills in supporting bouts, but what promised to be a barnburner at the UIC Pavilion ended in a whimper.

Last night’s main event at the UIC Pavilion had scarcely began when a right hook from the undefeated Rau’shee Warren (12-0, 3 knockouts, 117.5 lbs.) deposited the onrushing Javier Gallo (21-10-1, 12 KO’s, 118 lbs.) into the ropes. Righting himself, Gallo resumed the chase. The combatants circled. Unfortunately, before the bout got untracked, about a minute later, their heads slammed together and, blinking, Gallo collapsed. Writhing in pain, he rolled over on his back. Some booing ensued. (continue reading…)

About Warriors Boxing

Launched in 2003, Warriors Boxing operates under a simple philosophy-bring the best boxers in the world to fight fans, match them in competitive bouts, and in doing so help re-establish the sport of boxing for a new generation.

With a series of successful Pay-Per-View shows and packed houses to its credit, the Warriors business model is working wonders in a sport that was sorely in need of the innovation and energy that the company brings to the table.

When it comes down to it though, a promotional company is only as good as the fighters and fights it promotes. Warriors Boxing has delivered on all fronts, with outstanding bouts such as Lara-Molina, Cayo-Peterson, Abraham-Miranda I and II, Miranda-Pavlik, Miranda-Green, Ibragimov-Briggs, Ibragimov-Klitschko, Urango-Hatton, Urango-Bailey, Cayo-Maidana and Ibragimov-Holyfield.
