CORPUS CHRISTI, April 9 – Before former World Champion Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz steps into the ring for his highly-anticipated comeback fight against Pipino Cuevas Jr. on Saturday, April 13, fans at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas will be treated to a full slate of undercard action featuring local junior lightweight prospect Jerry Belmontes in an eight round bout against Nicaragua’s Daniel Diaz in the evening’s co-main event that will be televised on FOX Sports Networks, FOX Deportes and FUEL TV.

This exciting card is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Leija & Battah Promotions and sponsored by Corona.  Doors open at 6:00 p.m. PT on fight night and the first bell rings at 7:00 p.m. PT.  The FOX Sports Networks telecast will air live at 10:00 p.m. ET/9:00 p.m. CT/7:00 p.m. PT.  FOX Deportes will air the fights on Sunday, April 14 at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT.  FUEL TV will rebroadcast the fight on June 9 at 12:00p.m. ET/9:00 a.m. PT.

Here we are fight fans, coming to you from Reliant Arena in Houston as two Texas lightweight legends go at it for the big bucks and the big glory. Diaz is in tremendous condition as always, while Jenkins feels he can finish the youngster with a single shot and has trained accordingly, as his wont. Jenkins has apparently worked himself into condition after “Making the rounds” at the local pubs and dance clubs when he first arrived in the Bayou City, while “El Torito” has had a hard and laborous training camp of eight solid weeks at the Savannah Gym in southwest Houston.

Veteran Las Vegas official Davey Pearl will be the third man in the ring for this contest of tough Texas World Lightweight Champions. (continue reading…)

LAS VEGAS, NV, July 29, 2010 – It’s official.  The Giant Pacific Octopus at the Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay entered the sports predictions arena earlier this morning when he aggressively selected Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez as the winner over Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz in Saturday night’s contest between the two pugilists who are fighting for Marquez’s Ring Magazine, WBA and WBO Lightweight World titles at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and live on HBO Pay-Per-View. 

The unnamed, 1-year-old male octopus weighs an estimated 40 pounds, has a six-foot reach, tentacles roughly three feet long, is the second octopus to predict the outcomes of sporting events this summer, the first being the mollusk Paul in Germany, who went undefeated in correctly picking all of Germany’s World Cup games as well as Spain’s championship win.  The intelligent animal chose between two 8″ x 8″ acrylic boxes placed inside his tank.  Each box was labeled with one of the fighter’s names.  (continue reading…)
