Every boxer and trainer who has been in the game long enough can tell you about some guy that the overwhelming majority of boxing fans have never heard of before who has a story to tell. Every superstar boxer in the game knows of some guy from years gone by for whom they great respect. A guy he may have lost to during his formative years. It takes a bomber to know one.  Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson said of his main event fighter, ”The first time I watched Sammy Vasquez Jr. fight I knew he had something special. He fights with urgency and focus unmatched by most. When that bell rings, whether the other guy knows it or not, he’s in a war and he’d better be ready because Sammy wants to end it quick.”

And his upcoming opponent this Friday night isn’t bad, either.  “James Stevenson is 21-0 and wants to get to 22-0. Should be a great fight. I can’t wait. If you’re a boxing fan, you need to check this fight out. It’s the kind of fight you can expect from IMP. It’s a great challenge for Sammy who fights non-stop, punches in bunches from all angles. He’s a warrior but has boxing skills too. I love watching him fight. Trust me, I know what I’m talking about, tune in and check Sammy out against his biggest challenge yet, you won’t be disappointed.” (continue reading…)
