MEXICO CITY, MX, October 20, 2016 — Boxing Superstar and Unified Middleweight World Champion GENNADY “GGG” GOLOVKIN, (36-0, 33 KO’s) was in Mexico City yesterday for a World Boxing Council/HUBLOT event as the two companies have partnered to support the goal of helping retired boxers with financial and health problems.

While in Mexico City, Golovkin was a big hit with local fans and media, meeting with a very large contingent of local press in addition to retired boxing legends JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ SR., ROBERTO DURAN, ROY JONES JR. and HUBLOT CEO RICARDO GUADALUPE. (continue reading…)

‘Hands of Stone’ — A Long Time Coming Boxing Movie Lacks Oomph

So said one sparring partner in the 1970s who, after being knocked down discovered that Roberto Duran’s nickname, “Manos de Piedras’ (Hands of Stone) was very fitting, indeed. One of the greatest boxers of all time, Duran went on to win world titles in four weight divisions, retiring at age 50 with a record of 103 wins (70 by knockout) and 16 losses. ​

I am a Catholic Hispanic-American that has been attending an HIV/AIDS facility, Phoenix Shanti Group, since November, 2011. Shanti’s mission statement: “Founded back in 1987, our goal is to provide housing, education and direct client services to individuals, families and loved ones infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS. ‘Shanti’ is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘Inner Peace’ and is reflective of Phoenix Shanti Groups’ approach of promoting personal empowerment and maintaining independence and dignity.”

Many of us dream of celebrity sports fame, but only cruel individuals would desire the May 13th, 1989 Los Angeles Times headline for former WBC lightweight champion, Esteban de Jesus, on their worst enemy: “Drug Addict Who Had AIDS.
