Bowker was a clever and capable boxer who compiled an excellent ring record; He learned his trade as a youngster by fighting in the Boxing Booths all over England and taking on anyone, regardless of size; During his career, he won the Bantamweight Championship of the World, the Bantamweight Championship of Europe, the BBBC Featherweight Championship of Great Britain and the BBBC Bantamweight Championship of Great Britain
 
Bowker defeated such men as Harry Ware, Andrew Tokell, Owen Moran, Frankie Neil, Pedlar Palmer, Pinkey Evans, Spike Robson, and Biz Mackey
