Eddie Campi
(Edouard De Campus)

BORN   July 4 1893; San Francisco, California
DIED June 21 1918; near Hollister, California
HEIGHT 5-4
WEIGHT 114-121 lbs

Campi was a slick, quick boxer type who lost but 9 "official" verdicts in 98 bouts but scored only 10 knockouts; During his career, he was a top contender for the Bantamweight Championship of the World; Many observers commented on his exceptional quickness; In fact, Earl Puryear, boxer, called Eddie "the quickest fighter he had ever seen in the ring"; Eddie was accidentally shot in a hunting accident (June 18, 1918) on his uncle's ranch near Hollister, California and died on June 21

He defeated such men as Johnny Coulon, Charles Ledoux, "Jersey" Frankie Burns and Benny Chavez; Fighting in a period of "No Decision" bouts, he bested Al Shubert, Dick Loadman, Billy DeFoe, Eddie O'Keefe, Joey Fox, and Louisiana

Nat Fleischer ranked Campi as the #9 All-Time Bantamweight; Herb Goldman ranked him as the #21 All-Time Bantamweight; Eddie was inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 1993
