Castellani was a talented fighter and a crowd favorite; He was a top contender during his career; Rocky boxed well and hit well but never quite managed to win the title; His most famous fight was with "Sugar" Ray Robinson in 1955 when he floored Ray but lost a split decision; After he retired from the ring, he was active as a referee and fight judge in New Jersey

During his career, he defeated such men as Joey Giardello, Johnny Bratton, Tony Janiro, Gil Turner, Holly Mims, Ralph "Tiger" Jones, Jimmy Herring, Johnny Lombardo, Ralph Zannelli, Vic Cardell, Pierre Langlois, Eugene Hairston, Herbie Kronowitz, Walter Cartier, Harold Green, Ernie Durando, Lester Felton, Felix Benson, Terry Moore, Jimmy Flood, Chico Varona, Johnny Sullivan, Al Andrews, Lenny "Boom Boom" Mancini and George "Sonny" Horne

Castellani was inducted into the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame in 1986 and the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2007
