Dillon was a tough, hard-hitting, aggressive attacker who moved well and possessed an abundance of stamina; He was considered by many to be a smaller version of Jack Dempsey, the heavyweight champion; Dempsey, who had never seen Dillon fight, once asked "Who does he fight like" ? "You" was the reply

Charley Rose ranked him as the #2 All-Time Light Heavyweight; Nat Fleischer ranked him as the #3 All-Time Light Heavyweight; Dillon was inducted into the Ring Boxing Hall of Fame in 1959 and the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1995
