Firpo was appropriately called
the "Wild Bull" because of his enormous "bull-like strength"; A rather
crude and ponderous heavyweight with a murderous, sledge-hammer punch, he could flatten a man
with a single blow; Firpo is most famous for his 1923
Heavyweight Championship fight with Jack
Dempsey in which he knocked Dempsey out of the ring
During his career, Firpo defeated such men as Jess Willard, "K.O."
Bill Brennan, Homer Smith, Charley Weinert, Erminio Spalla, Al Reich,
Dave Mills, "Italian" Jack Herman and Walter "Farmer" Lodge |
