Wilfredo "Bazooka" Gomez

Gomez was a talented fighter with a solid punch who earned a 44-3-1 career mark with 42 knockouts during his career; He won the WBA Super Featherweight Championship of the World, the WBC Featherweight Championship of the World and the WBC Super Bantamweight Championship of the World

His 1982 knockout victory over Lupe Pintor was one of the most brutal and exciting fights of the decade; Salvador Sanchez defeated him in a matchup of two great fighters; Gomez, proud of his Puerto Rican heritage, honored his homeland in his acceptance speech: "This award is not for me, it is for Puerto Rico. Thank you."
