Halimi was a fine boxer who earned a splendid record in the ring; He lost only eight bouts in 51 contests; During his career, he won the Bantamweight Championship of the World and the EBU Bantamweight Championship of Europe

He defeated such men as Mario D'Agata, Raul "Raton" Macias, Billy Peacock, Piero Rollo, Tanny Campo, Freddie Gilroy, Letterio Petilli, Peter Keenan, Jean Pierre Cossemyns, Jean Renard, Louis Poncy and Juan Cardenas

Alphonse was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1989
