LaBlanche was not a great boxer but he was quick and agile; Neither was he a great slugger but he carried a good punch; His fighting nature was scrappy and game; He is most famous for his "Pivot Punch" that he used against "Nonpareil" Jack Dempsey in 1889; It looked as if he had won the Middleweight Championship but the blow was ruled illegal and Dempsey kept the crown

During his career, LaBlanche defeated such men as "Nonpareil" Jack Dempsey, Tom Henry, Denny Kelliher, Frank Bosworth, Sam Bittle, Tom Hinch and Mike Lucie
