Roman was a very talented boxer - a wonderful technician - who posted a career record of 54-6-1 with 35 knockouts; He possessed a very good left jab and fast hands; During his career, he has won the WBC Super Flyweight Championship of the World

Gilberto defeated such men as Santos Benigno Laciar, Jiro Watanabe, Paul Ferreri, Sugar Baby Rojas, Antonio Avelar, Jorge Ramirez, Yoshiyuki Uchida, Kiyoshi Hatanaka, Juan Carazo, Mike Phelps, Edgar Omar Monserrat, Ruben Osvaldo Condori, Kongtoranee Payakaroon, Antoine Montero, Frank Cedeno, Oscar Bolivar, Wayne Lynumn, Ron Cisneros and George Garcia
