Saldivar was a left-handed battler with great stamina who boxed or slugged and often waged war with a brutal body attack; He lost only three bouts during his career and won the WBC Featherweight Championship of the World, the WBA Featherweight Championship of the World and the Featherweight Championship of Mexico

Vicente defeated such men as Ismael Laguna, Jose Legra, Johnny Famechon, Ultimino "Sugar" Ramos, Harold Winstone, Juan Ramirez, Eloy Sanchez, Raul Rojas, Mitsunori Seki, Jorge "Baby" Salazar, Dwight Hawkins, Frankie Crawford and Eduardo Guerrera

Herb Goldman ranked Saldivar as the #17 All-Time Featherweight; Vicente was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1999
