Ray Basting, Middleweight contender from the 1960's

Basting lost by first round KO to an ancient Sugar Ray Robinson in 1965.

Does anybody know Basting's record prior to the Robinson loss?

Boxrec. only shows the Robinson fight
but i don't think he was a contender
not that i remember

He's called Earl Basting in some reports of the fight, but there's no sign of any other fights with either name. I tried searching for a lot of variations of the surname "Basting" without success.

Well, I realize he wasn't a "contender", but I recently received the Robinson-Basting fight and Boxrec has him listed as 0-0-0.

I find it hard to believe that a guy was making his pro debut against Sugar Ray Robinson, even a 45 year old version.

That's why I was wondering about the record.

Looks like someone at Boxrec found some more fights for this guy, he's now listed as "Earl Bastings":
