Mr Baltazar,

On June 22, 1973 a team from San Diego came up to fight a team that represented the IYBC I believe. At my parents home in San Diego, I have this large trophy that Norman Parra told me to hold, which I have done now for the last 33 yrs. We fought at the Olympic. I fought Paz Mena that night. I recall Frankie Durante, Francisco Flores and Frankie Estrada also fighting.
What or who were the IYBC? Rudy Jordan was the ref that night.
Just wondering?

Rudy

The I.Y.B.C. was a boxing club out of Montebello Ca.
The club had money people behind it but for some reason or other it went belly up.

I started Paz Mena in the JR's then his old man took him some where else.
If you fought Paz Mena in 1973 I was in his corner for that fight because in 1973 he was my fighter

Rudy

In 1973 a team from Ensenada came to the I.Y.B.C club they fought a team made up of fighters from differed clubs in the L.A area.
My son Frankie was on the team an he fought a guy that looked like Mando Ramos Frankie won a close fight, after the fights we were invited to go down to Ensenada an they wanted a rematch between Frankie and the Mando Ramos look alike , well we went down there an when Frankie's fight came up a guy about 25 years old got in the ring to fight Frankie an I said wait a minute here, that not the guy Frankie is fighting an they said ya that the guy he fought in Montebello, I said no way , hell Frankie was only 15 at the time , anyway the guy that Frankie fought before was in back of the hall so when I said Frankie was not fighting they bought the right guy in an Frankie fought an beat the guy again.

Mr Baltazar,

As I mentioned before that was the date of the event. I also recall Joe Chavez (the one that was in DLH corner this past Sat) also worked Mena's corner. I am not sure if it was this time or the time we fought in San Diego.
For some reason I alway thoguht Paz was out of Resurrection (now DLH).
I think Johnny Flores work his corner in SD too but then I fought Frankie Estrada( recall him?) and Flores was in his corner. It has been a few years now, so I maybe wrong. I know he turn pro for awhle like all of us but what ever happen to Mena?

As far as the trip to Ensenada, I can relate to your story. Your lucky if you even seen the guy weight in back then. I can tell you now that it is 100% better for fighters down there. They all weight in at the same time and place, headgears are used and 10 ounce gloves are used. Back then, you never say the guy you were going to fight until your in the ring with no headgear and 6 ounce gloves...and let me tell, those 6 ounce have a way of waking you up quick or putting you to sleep quick.

Of course I do!! I spent my 17th birthday in that place. One day prior to my first National bout against some guy from Boston.
You know, I still have the key to the room I stayed in.
I recall eating at some buffet place in this little town that was walking distance from this place.
Thanks for the smile.
I have plenty of pictures of Estrada when we fought in SD once.
