Luckett says Proctor fought Kid Tunero, not Turkey Thompson, on 12/29/41, so Bert changed the BoxRec record accordingly. Also, the correct date is Feb 21, 1939, for the Seaman bout.

Turkey was one of the brightest young MIDDLEWEIGHTS I ever saw develop in California. He boxed frequently for us at Hollywood as a heavyweight, when he still had a devastating left hook that served him well, while almost tearing the head off the recipient. Who else ever had Bob Pastor down six times in one round?

To elaborate somewhat on his record: The one-round kayo loss to Al Hart at the Olympic was very controversial. Hart, who was a splendid specimen in the Mr. Universe cut, dropped Turkey----no mistake there. But Thompson was fine, ready to continue, yet waited but a nano second too long to arise and the bout was called.

Everytime I see Thompson's record I'm reminded of the terrible injustice done to one of his eternal opponents, Bobby Seamon. All that sharp prospect was asked to do, in a span of some 9 months, was to beat Thompson in a first meeting, then take him on again (a loss), follow up with an outdoor loss to Holman Williams on the Louis-Roper title show, then lose a third bout with Thompson and follow that with another loss to Archie Moore. Best that can be said, as a token consolation, is that Bobby won over Turkey in their fourth and final fight.

For whatever reason---the road to oblivion is oft-times strewn with shattered prospects.

Sorry, folks!

Seems I got one too many bouts between Turkey and Seamon in a previous post. Too many "Bobbys" fogged my vision (along with old age, that is). But I hope you got the point.

Anyone find out if
Albert"Turkey"Thompson
is still around?
(born December.1919)
Which would make him 91 years old now.

He sure looks big for even a one time rmiddeweight.
Even bigger then Randy Turpin did.
In that second photo,he looks a little like Anderson Silva of the MMA.

Since i asked the question over 2 years ago, boxrec has since listed him as passing away sometime in June 1984.
They didnt list the source for this info though.
