Yep, that's Mike Tyson versus Tommy Morrison. It's being seriously considered.
Yea or Nay?
A boon to the sport or the end of civilization as we know it?
I think it would be a huge PPV success . . . but I don't know if I could sleep with the knowledge that we had allowed it to happen.
What do you guys think? PeteLeo.

Let "The Duke" duke it out with Tyson, who Tommy claimed to always want to fight. Let'em make a lot of money and see if the can finally put it to good use.

The only Tyson blurb I've seen is him promoting Holy 3. Morrison has said he wants to challenge for the title and wants the ban against him lifted.

Whatever.

Potentially out-Freak Shows Blood Green/Butterbean. The question is who is the 'most shot'? My guess is Morrison. Doubt Tyson will ever get in shape to box again though. Will likely pass much like Tyson/Tarver in the Middle East or whatever it was some months ago.

The real question is should Morrison even be banned? The chances of contracting HIV through a boxing contest is near impossible. The virus in the blood dies on contact with air. On a side note The Duke claims to have defeated HIV & it no longer is present in his body. He was boasting he never took his prescribed drugs which "looked like a big bag of death" and now regularly has unprotected sex with his HIV negative wife. Interesting...

PS If The Duke does come back i hope they test him for steroids since he now openly admits his entire career was performed on The Juice!

Pushing 40, a decade layoff & denied his illegal boosters. He should go far.

I thought he withered down to like 150 when he was an HIV denialist...?

Saw a picture of Morrison ealier this year and although it is very hard to judge weight on a photograph I would have put him at 180lbs - 190lbs.

Y'know, it's gotta be said.

The line between sanctioned boxing matches and bootleg videotaped bum fights is getting thinner and thinner all the time.

If this fight goes through I wonder what kind of catchy alphabet title will be attatched to this bout?:(
Sad thing is I agree the pay per view on this would probably do well.
Tyson has nothing left and from what I'm hearing here Morrison could be a Cruiserweight.Sounds like a tough man contest kind of fight to me.

The ol' Spit Bucket is just LOVIN this thread :)

Even for me this fight is lower than layers of grime on the bottom of a city dumpster.

Morrison would have a rough time against Mesi at this point. It is going to take him longer to get in any semblance of fight shape than Tyson (that is even if he get's promoted and can begin a comeback).

He should fight ol' Big Daddy Bowe, he is just BLAZIN that comeback trail lately isn't he?

 Now?!

Back in the day, I'd favor Mike easily; but now such a suggestion is obsurd and should be reserved for the freak show at your local circus. Tyson's shot, Tommy's got HIV and neither belong in the ring anymore.

Yes he should be banned....and what do you mean impossible? One cut and one headbutt later and it's blood from cut to skin to HIV +. No thank you.

Nah, the Jones thread wasn't deleted -- it's slipped to the third page due to lack of interest.

If it comes off, I'll bet it does at least 400,000 buys (Mosley-Vargas II just did 350,000). You read it here first. PeteLeo.

I hear this fight is being held inside a dumpster in Piscataway, NJ, with special guest referee Howard Stern.

"Piscataway." I always liked that name; it sounds both playful and dirty, like the gal who was selling it on your block but would throw you a free one now and again because she thought you were cute. Is it a nice place? PeteLeo.

I wouldn't pay to see this fight if were held in my living room. but if people would pay to watch that ufc shit, they pay for Tyson vs Morrison

I fail to see the correlation between someone ordering a mixed martial arts PPV full of competitive matchups between some of the best men in their chosen sport and someone ordering the circus event that Morrison-Tyson would undoubtedly be.

I understand that you don't like MMA, but why bring it up just to dump on it when it has nothing to do with the issue at hand?

Thank you for saying it.

There is no correlation, just people spouting off at the mouth.

Hey Gor,

I think you guys have a lot of pull here at the CBZ. Since I'm an HIV educator and also live with the virus (www.aboyagirlavirus.com if interested), any chance of getting me in as the special guest time keeper? Wrestling does that, you just nod approval when the real timekeeper hits the bell. More of a vanity position.

As for Tommy and his stance on HIV, I believe he now claims he had a "false positive." These do occur rarely, I spoke with a young guy here in town about 5 years ago. He tested positive at one lab and negative at another. Needless to say, he was confused. (Both tests came back negative eventually.)

As for Tommy, I'm not sure if I buy it. Just because of his track record. It's true that it is unlikely that HIV would be transmitted, but the potential for panic is there. Imagine a judge or ringsider being splattered with the Duke's blood?

It's sad that in the last decade Morrison hasn't found another avenue. I'm with Gor, Big Daddy Bowe and the Duke at some reservation casino in Montana. With me as special guest timekeeper.

Why hasn't anyone mention the possibility of Tommy contracting a disease from Mike? Tommy may bleed a bit, but given Tyson's history of biting, who knows? Human bites are really nasty purveyors of infections...

Overhand_Right

Who cares if you get spattered by Morrisons blood? Unless you have some huge gaping open wound & his blood somehow runs into your skin as opposed to running OUT of your skin which is what blood actually does, your safe. BTW HIV dies on contact with air. Even if it goes in your mouth HIV is eaten up by stomach acids. Unless Tyson or any other prospective opponent is planning on allowing The Duke to engage in unprotected penetrative anal sex & ejaculate inside them then they are very safe.

As for Morrisons weight loss well as he said himself without steroids he would have been a cruiserweight his whole career so him weighing 190 now is not surprising. Personally i admire the guys defiance he truly believes he beat the disease & without normal medical treatment.

Here's an article on Tommy: http://sportsline.com/columns/story/9561292

In it he states that he's had HIV for 10 years with no symptoms, and makes that claim to support his suspicion of receiving a false positive. There are quite a few people who are "non-progressors", and HIV affects people differently. Also, as much as Morrison partied, his steroid use could be to blame for his infection. (If he were sharing needles.)

Morrison also claims that his "false positive" was a result of a shady promoter. Wasn't he supposed to fight Arthur Weathers that night? I don't see networks or the boxing world throwing Morrison on the flames, the guy was a cash cow.

I relate to Tommy's confusion, when I tested positive the strangest thing was NOT getting sick. Everyone expected me to die within a year or two, but I kept plugging along. I wasn't an athlete, I was an 11 year old obsessed with pro wrestling.

However, a Tyson-Morrison fight on any level sucks for me as an educator. When someone with Morrison's scattered viewpoint gets press, I'm one of the guys who has to clean up the mess answering questions about government cover-ups when I should be explaining how to put a condom on correctly.

Morrison's problem is not only having HIV but not having a chin. All it would take is one decent shot from Tyson or Big Daddy and he's out like a light. He has a penchant for taking punches to the face so defensive skills won't be saving him. I hope nobody puts this fight on because it won't be good for boxing; just think what would happen if a Tyson punch leaves him more brain damaged than he already is and during the fight Tyson catchs HIV somehow. Not good.

BTW - if he's sleeping with his wife bareback I certainly hope he's been tested more than once. If I tested positive and then negative, I'd make sure to test at lest 3 or 4 more times before putting my bare willy into the woman I supposedly love. Not only that, if he is still positive, then he gives it to her, what about their kids? This is not just a boxing issue and at the very least the boxing commission(s), someone, needs to make certain he's negative. Then and only then can he possibly take the fight and even then, while he's not the brightest guy, he does not the damage boxing can cause and for a guy with a china chin an an open window for a defense, he should be smart enough to understand the repercusions. He won't though....tsk, tsk....
