    Hi Peter

    Glad you like the pics.

As to how I am doing? the best I can say is that I wake up in the mornings.

So how're you and the wife and the baby doing?

    Still making tacos?

I haven't contributed to this thread yet, but I just remembered some thoughts I had about the Baltazar brothers when I first read about them in a magazine in 1979 or 1980.

These are just hazy memories of mine...I may be wrong!

Based on his pictures, and his reputation as a puncher, Tony struck me as being being serious, tough, and the "meaner" of the brothers (based on facial expression). Frankie, on the other hand, was always smiling in his pictures, so I figured Frankie must have had a happy, upbeat, easy-going personality.

Also, I seem to recall that Frankie was interested in history, particularly World War II books.

    These were just my impressions....

That's the photo that was in the magazine article I was talking about. It dated from 1979 or 1980. I remember Frankie being quoted in that article as saying he was interested in World War II history.

Sorry Frank, but I don't have any of my old magazines any more.

That particular article was in some unusual boxing magazine that was published for only a short period of time in the late '70s and early '80s. I don't remember the name of it...I only recall that it didn't last long on the market. It was a boxing magazine that only did feature stories; it didn't report any boxing news, or fights, etc.

It wasn't International/World Boxing, and it wasn't Ring Magazine or Boxing Illustrated. I wish I could remember the name of it, but I can't.

If I remember correctly, that month's version of the magazine also did a story about Thomas Hearns (who had just knocked out Bruce Curry) and Randy Shields (who was talking about how frustrated he was with the officials in the Cuevas fight).

Again, the magazine was published sometime later in 1979 or early in 1980.

    Hi Mr. B!

Well I hope you have a good day tomorrow my friend (and the day after that and after that and -- you know what I mean).

The baby and wife are doing well -- thanks for asking! The little guy was born premature and small but now he's a real little bruiser. Lots of kicking -- I guess it'll be soccer and not boxing for him!

You know what? No tacos now since the baby was born -- a lot of re-heating and take out and not enough homemade food! Of course since I do the cooking, I have no one to blame but myself. I will resolve to make Mrs. B's delicious tacos this weekend!

Take care of yourself my friend,

    -Peter

    Davis-Baltazar

    Frank,

On another thread regarding Snipes-Coetzee it came to light that the NYSAC has a rule regarding the judging of fights that allows a judge to use a points system in the event of a two-point round (knockdown) as opposed to a rounds system.

I assume this rule is used in the event that it can reverse a judges final tally which likely would have happened in the Snipes-Coetzee fight. I haven't heard much of this option being utilized but I do know that Jersey Joe Walcott was able to get a split decision win over Jimmy Bivins when one judge revesed his card for Bivins by a round and gave it to Walcott based on a knockdown. The reversal was the difference between Walcott winning the fight and Bivins winning the fight.

The reason I bring this to your attention is because I remember the controversy surrounding Tony's fight with Howard Davis. The following weekend after the fight was shown, there was some discussion criticizing the scoring of the bout (I believe it was on CBS).

Now, I don't believe giving Tony 10-8 rounds for his KD's of Davis would have given Tony the win (would have been a split decision though) was there any complaint about or reference to this option not being utilized by the judges scoring the fight?

    10-8
First of all the Davis fight was in N.J. and not in N.Y, but to be honest with you I didn't know there was such a rule any where, been in Calif. where the fights are score on the point system I didn't and I still don't know much about the round system, an yes it was on CBS.
