Kiev was a city in Russia in 1904, there was no country or republic Ukraine back then, so Benny Bass should be listed as Russian. Based on place of birth both Klitschkos aren't Ukranians either, as some of the fighters seem to be listed according to their place of birth, rather than the country they attributed themselves with.

If these lists are based on place of birth then Jimmy McClarnin should be added to Ireland and Mike Donovan removed. Also Lloyd Honeyghan was born in Jamaica.

Toss in Ike Weir, Tom Sharkey, Mike McTigue and Jimmy McLarnin for Ireland.

    Anton Raadik for Estonia

Spider Pladner and Eugene Huat for France

    Casper Leon for Italy

Soldier Bartfield for Austria (or Poland. I forget who had that region at the time).

I don't know if he qualifies as a great but the Scot, Chic Calderwood was a good fighter.

Yeah, your correct. Technically the Czeck Republic did not exist at the time, having only come into being recently as a result of the break-up of the old eastern block when it was part of Czecksloavakia, which in turn was formed with the break-up of the AustroHungarian empire in 1918 after WW1. But Root was born in what is now the Czeck Republic. BTW I rate Root very highly.
