Kid Gavilan-Billy Graham III . . What Controversey?

Just watched the entire fight for the first time, and I have to say, I don't see the decision as controversial in the slightest. I always read about how Graham outboxed Gavilan, but Gavilan continually outpunched, outlanded, and outhustled Graham. He threw more and landed more, and also outboxed Graham through most of the bout, forcing Graham to fight a defensive fight. Occasionally landing 1-2s that get the crowd excited shoudn't erase what the champion did the other 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

I had it 9-6 for Gavilan, the same as one of the judges. Would be curious to know what other CBZ'ers thought . .

I agree. It was hardly the ripoff that was claimed. Billy was a very popular white fighter back in the 50's and that probably had a lot to do with the absurd hysteria over this fight.

I see it pretty much exactly like Hags.
