“Winky” training in Arizona

Former world champion Ronald ‘Winky’ Wright (51-5-1, 25 KOs) has opened training camp in Phoenix, Arizona. The St. Petersburg, Florida native has chosen to prepare for his upcoming fight completely across country from his hometown. Wright is scheduled to take on unbeaten world ranked Peter ‘Kid Chocalate’ Quillin on June 2nd. Wright is temporarily staying at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in downtown Phoenix, Arizona. Wright-Quillin will be the co-feature to Tarver-Kayode from the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.

If this fight happened three years ago I would say this was a very bad match for Quillin, that Wright will utterly embarrass him. However, Winky has been inactive for three years. Not a formula for success. That said, if Winky can even remotely recapture what he once had, it could be a tough fight for Quillin to look good in. History tells us that inactivity for lengthy periods of time almost never does a fighter any good. BUT, Winky has a vast amount of experience and one of the most formidable defenses over the last decade or more. Quillin is a hitter more than a defender, and if he can't just overpower Winky and get through that guard, and Quillin shows some fatigue as the rounds progress, Winky will tap the heck out of him and make it close. Question is how much Winky has left after not entering the ring for so long, and what type of shape he will be in for this bout.
