World Boxing Hall of Fame: Class of 2006

Have they announced their inductees yet? They usually issue the voting results each June and hold their ceremony in October.

Re: World Boxing Hall of Fame: Class of 2006

    Scottish Boxing Legend BERT GILROY,

a dual Scottish Champion MW & L-HW (1938-50) and the UK's No.1 contender 1939-48, 'official' title challenger to both Freddie Mills & the fearsome Jock McAvoy, is to be the 6th British fighter to be INDUCTED into the World Boxing Hall of Fame, in Los Angeles, Califoria...

Bert who suffered the double misfortune of the second World War and Boxing Politics shares the Honour with Bob Fitzsimmons, Jackie 'Kid' Berg, Randolph Turpin, fellow Scot, Ken Buchanan and Irish hero Barry McGuigan.

On the night it self Boxing Great Roberto Duran, Matthew Sadd Muhammed, Julian Jackson and fellow top contender, from the 40s American, Jackie Graves.

Gilroy had a career record of 119 fights, 86 (44ko's) wins, 25 losses, 8 draws.

A great day for the late Bert Gilroy and British Sport and Boxing History!

That's a pretty good list of across-the-pond fighters they've inducted! My two all time fave U.K. fighters are Berg & Ted "Kid" Lewis. They definitely should induct Lewis!

Btw: Jim, if you have Gilroy's career record why don't you post it here. Then I'll have it posted in the CBZ's Boxing Encyclopedia.

What a great list of inductees! Of course I am pleased (being a Roberto Duran fanatic) but especially happy that the underappreciated boxers Bert Gilroy and Eddie Perkins are finally getting some appreciation! I am sorely tempted to make the trek to CA in October...

Re: World Boxing Hall of Fame: Class of 2006

Hi GorDoom, well done on Bert, however you forgot 4 (5), of Bert's "middleweight" title fight's and 'eliminator' bouts...

to say nothing of the June 10 1940 bout with McAvoy for the British middleweight title...Gilroy broke his pelvis bone while on military maneuvers, bone became septic and Bert lost a year came back 1941 shot straight up to No.1 remained there till 1948, yet still 'never' got his Title Shot!

    1938-06-11 - Johnny Clements Coatbridge, Scotland W KO 10
    Scottish Middleweight Title 'Eliminator'

1938-09-27 Tommy Smith Glasgow, Scotland W PTS 15
    Scottish Middleweight Title

1939-06-07 Johnny Clements Glasgow, Scotland W DQ 13
    Scottish Middleweight Title

1940-03-06 Arthur (Ginger) Sadd Newcastle Upon Tyne, Engl W PTS 12
    British Middleweight Title 'final' Eliminator

1940-06-10 Jock McAvoy Manchester, England 15
    British Middleweight Title
    Called 'off-injury' Gilroy

    Yours, Jim.

Re: World Boxing Hall of Fame: Class of 2006

    Jim:

I sent these other bouts to Tracy Callis & they will be added to the Encyclopedia. I also told him to change the credit at the bottom for supplying the record. he erroneously credited it to me because I sent it to him.

But I asked him to change the record credit to you since obviously you were the one that supplied it.

& thanks again for doing so.

    regards,

    GorDoom
