Mystery writer Mickey Spillane dies at 88.

Over the last few months, I have been reading novels by Richard Prather, one of Spillane's contemporaries. I've picked up a recent edition of the first three Mike Hammer novels and will give those a spin sometime. Prather's Shell Scott novels are great: fast, fun reads, with loads of wacky scenes and some amusing wordplay. Prather's descriptions of women are worth the price of admission.

Prather is still alive and can be reached in Sedona, Arizona. I wrote him and bought a signed copy of his last published novel from him. He seems like a great guy.
