This has been driving me mad all day.

What is the name of that electronic musical instrument that is often used on old horror films to make that spooky, ghostly atmospheric sound?

John Spencers Blues Explosion have also used it on some of their albums?

I know the answer I just can't recall it.

Used to perhaps its greatest effect in the classic sci-fi/horror epic THE THING (FROM ANOTHER WORLD). A terrific movie. PeteLeo.

By the way -- some very odd electronic instrument -- not a theremin -- was used in Kay Kyser's film You'll Find Out (1940).

I have not wathced that film i.n some time -- copy is buried somehwere in my archives (nee garage).

Never played a Theremin, but I once pissed on an electric fence.
That produced some very unusual electrified notes. PeteLeo.
