"MARINE CORPS SPORTS HALL OF FAME INDUCTS THREE"
Commandant of the Marine Corps, General Michael W. Hagee
inducted Marine Corps veterans, Ernie Nevers, Greg Gibson and
Barney Ross, into the Marine Corps Sports Hall of Fame during an
induction ceremony at the Clubs in Quantico, Virginia, on July 28,06.
Nevers a former Major, is a charter member of the National Football
League, Hall of Fame and is a member of the College Football
Hall of Fame.
Gibson, who held the rank of Master Sergeant, is a three time World
Cup Greco-Roman champion and the 1984 Olympic Greco-Roman
Wrestling Silver Medalist.
Ross, held the rank of Sergeant, was the world boxing champion in
three different weight classes at the same time. Ross also received
a Silver Star for his actions during World War Two.
The Marine Corps Sports Hall of Fame honors Marine Veterans who
have excelled on and off the playing field.
