Re: Post suggested lists & research here

Hi Mike, I'd like to see a list of Title Challengers that NEVER got title shot's!

and of course I don't just mean any-and-all top contenders who were great and good enough, but Ligitimate Top Contenders who were "official" title challengers but for what ever reason 'still' never got their shot! I know personally about Gilroy, we all know about Burley and while researching I was told about Tony Shucco. A list of "Official Major Title challengers, Who NEVER got their shot!"

I'll bet though there were a lot of worthy top contenders, there probably aren't a lot of "official title challengers" who never actually did.

Good idea -- by the way, Shucco is one of my favorite guys as he was one of those I first researched when I got started. I loved the name and once wrote a Rod Serling type story that began "Tony Shucco, clenching a damp DiNobli in his teeth, shuffled foot to foot in foot of the pawnshop." OUCH!

I am working on it! One problem is that "rankings" per se did not arrive until mid-1920s so prior to that is very subjective.

How about a listing of the main/regular sparring partners of the Heavyweight Champs? From the days of John L.Sullivan to Muhammad Ali.
You know how they always say that Jack Sharkey was the opponent that bridged the eras of Jack Dempsey to Joe Louis?
Why were some potentially top contenders or possible future champs just stuck in spaaring partner mentality?

How about a list of all disqualifications in championship fights and the infractions that caused them...

Ummmmm . . . hey! Didn't somebody bite off somebody else's ears in a title fight one time? Or was that just another wacky idea thunk up by that "My kid's aboard a runaway balloon!" guy to try to get back on TV? PeteLeo.

Thinking of that, Evander may have been involved in the most passive championship DQ (Akinwande) and the most violent (Tyson).

Doesn't explain his 93 children but it is odd.

Re: Post suggested lists & research here

I'm compiling a new boxing trivia book as part of my Ask Your Uncle Trivia series. If anyone would be kind enough to send me some unique lists they've vetted, I would be thankful and be sure to cite you in the credits.

Rather than subjective lists, I'm interested in legitimate boxing records, especially including modern boxers (I give due credit to early century fighters).

One in particular is 'Most contests between two fighters.' I've catalogued a number of double-digit-foes, but would like something comprehensive. If only I could sort columns on Boxrec!

    Thanks - Frank Morris, ayutrivia@gmail.com
