That first photo you posted was of my doing. As a publicity man for the Legion Stadium where we were building him up, I thought it would be a good gesture to have Bill Holden bequeath his Golden Boy title to Aragon in our ring during fight night.
I walked over to Columbia studios, corner Gower and Sunset, and met with Jimmy O'Toole, their publicity head. He thought it would be a good deal even for Holden, and the stage was set.
Johnny Allen, boxing writer for the now defunct L.A. Daily News, was the first to refer to Aragon as Golden Boy mainly because our Legion shows never drew as well with any other fighter. Local fight fans and the press in general had been referring to Aragon by that nickname....so it kinda stuck.
