The Ability he displayed in the amateurs?
Blv, what are you thoughts on how this matchup goes?
Personally, I think a Prime Leon overwhelms him with his pressure. Maybe he doesn't score a clean KO, but I think he forces a stoppage.
Hawk
Despite Papa Joe Probably glowering over Marvis's Shoulder at Leon, i think Marvis would certainly notice the difference between the hyper Leon and the slow tired trio of Broad, Bugner and Bone, Marv may not have the ability to "deflect" Leon over the long Haul, and if Leon is as persistant as in Marcado/Ali 1st fights he could garner a second half stoppage.
Another vote for Neon. Personally, the real question is should there be a Crusierweight level.
Hawk, I'm truthfully in line with you.I think Marvis would have his moments, and if Leon was in his drug fazed state, I think he could decision or possibly stop Leon. But from what I've seen of Leon Spinks, his pressure would be too much for Marvis.A seventh or eighth round stoppage sounds right.Originally Posted by hawk5ins
I feel a prime Neon beats Marvis every time. Too busy, too strong, a real warrior not threatened by a guy more his own size like Marvis. It's also styles: Leon was faster and tougher than Marvis, and hit plenty hard enough. Honestly, I can't see a scenario in which Marvis could beat a prime Leon.
Honestly, I've been reading your stuff and it's super solid save the Taylor/Benitez claim that Taylor was much faster.Originally Posted by Michael Frank

Thanks!
True, about "prime" Leon. But, I'd say Leon prior to Coetzee (1979) beats Marvis at any point in the latter's career. Marvis's prime didn't impress me at all.
Leon Spinks despite getting destroyed by Coetzee, Holmes, Qawi, and Carlos DeLeon did manage to beat some decent/good heavyweight such as Alfredo Evangalista and Bernardo Mercado(had a tko win over Earnie Shavers). Marvis Frazier had his dad's fighting heart and that's about it. I think Leon Spinks stops Marvis Frazier in about 7 rounds.
Leon's prime? I dunno, figure maybe Ali I?
But at his best, he beats Marvis. Spinks is faster, non-stop puncher, and would eat Marvis up at the closer ranges. Figure Marvis doesn't have the power or skills to keep Leon off for long. Spinks UD15.
Neon Leon, in shape with Benton in his corner would be too fast, busy and aggresive for Frazier Jr.
Leon swarms all over him for a TKO between 6 & 8 rounds.
THIS passes for a "Fantasy Fight"??? Sheesh.
What's the matter? Are we all out of Greb vs. Hags? J.Johnson vs. Foreman? Gans vs. Leonard? LOL
