Durelle was one tough fighter. I hope he recovers, a stroke is a scary thing and serious business.
I remember seeing his fights with Archie Moore live on t.v.
I wish him well and will keep him in my prayers.

He is quite a character. Interesting to talk to if you can understand his Acadian accent.
I know him and many of his family members well. If the man would have thrown a few bodyshots in his career, he would have certainly been world champ.
Yvon Durelle (and George Chuvalo) are legends here in Canada as fighters and gentlemen. My thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Durelle and his family.
Same here.
What a tough man who fought the best.
So sorry to hear that and my prayers are with him.
I know he fought George Chuvalo and Floyd too.
Hope he gets better.

Yogi. You are familiar with Yvonne's local nickname.
Are you frm the river?
I'm out here on the west coast, my friend, and unfortunately I've never been that far east, which is something I hope to remedy and before too long...Originally Posted by Off The River

Take care.
I see.
Durelle was indeed an individual. I was fortunate enough to have heard him tell me a few stories about his life. Believe it or not, I have yet to read his book! I guess having grown up around him and heard some stories from him and his nephews(one married my maternal aunt), I just kept putting off reading the copy my father had.
Time to have it sent over here.
Manny Steward was amazed that a guy who fought so many tuff fights like Yvon was so well spoken and articulate. Quite a guy obviously and his place in boxing history is there forever. R.I.P. great heart.
The Durelle's are reall an amazing family. It is said that Placid, his brother, the tougher of the two in a one on one scrap, but he would lose control in the ring.
