Peter's best career performance and he will annihalate Oleg Maskaev. If he can keep this up, he may be able to reverse the first Klit fight. James Toney's shape again disgraceful, but it was a good fight for the first nine.

On another note, it saddens me to see Freddie Roach slurring his words, and having tremors.
peter won all the way and toney proved what a classless act he is in the post fight interview.

Peter looked very good but I still don't belive he beats Klitchko in there first fight. Peter is getting better but is still an easy target for the much quicker Klitchko. Toney needs to retire and except the defeat. Greg's right, Toney shows no class in not acknowledging the better fighter. But with Toney what can we expect.
I hope Peter gets a shot at the WBC title. But I would much rather see Maskaev drop the WBC trincket and Klitchko and Maskaev fight for what I believe would be the Heavyweight world championship.
I turned it off after the third. I was bored and it was late.
Toney can and will keep fighting. He just cannot beat the top guys (I use the term loosely) at his age. He simply gives up too much and his conditioning is not what it should be. He has been remarkable and has taught me that little men can beat many big men. He'll keep fighting for the money until he fades. He'll end up losing to second tier guys eventually.
Peters fought the best round I've ever seen him fight in the first. He still needs a ton of polish. He still needs better conditioning. Today he is a force based on the terrible division. I'd like to see a rematch with him and Klit Jr. Still, he's no big dead although he appears to be a likable guy.
The sport is terribly boring today.
Peters looked good but damn is he slow. If toney had any kind of power peters would have been koed. Toney must need money to still keep fighting. It's been a while since he was in shape. The only shape he's been in lately is round. Time to hang'em up.

Bullshit. They embedded US media keeps repeating that over and over until it's expected to be accepted as the God-given truth. In fact, their greats of the past, like the endlessly media-hyped Clay-Ali, would have little or no chance against Wladimir Klitschko. Far too big and far too strong and far too devastating for him.
As for Toney, good riddance to bad rubbish. He said he won. Bwahaha!
Peter has greatly improved in both skill and conditioning, and he is now definitely a force to be reckoned with in the heavyweight division.

I thought Peter did a great job and is 100% better than last time. The guy has the potential to be the best heavyweight since Lewis, maybe even better than Lewis if he continues to improve. His quality of chin, heavy handedness (he can hurt guys with minimal effort, doesn't even have to throw big punches to stun most heavyweights) and his willingness to improve himself make him stand out from the rest of the crowd. I think he'd beat Wlad in a rematch, if he fought to the best of his ability and came to fight in shape.

Wlad is the best there is and he keeps hugely improving too. He is really head and shoulders above all the rest. But no one can take Peter lightly and that is for sure! I suppose Peter will be able to beat Maskaev, but maybe not - remains to be seen. Peter vs. Valuev - I'd like to see that one! Wlad vs. Peter - I'd expect a quicker and cleaner KO by Wlad. Peter vs. the fake champ, Briggs - might be an interesting slugfest for a while, but Briggs goes down early.

It is time to put a fork in JT. It is either retire or retire.
This latest blunder has left him with no foreseeable path to contention, an old novelty act that no one wants to see anymore & fans who will never believe a word that comes out of his mouth again. This is just another example of how JT cannot see success through in his career without shooting himself in both feet.
It is obvious JT is completely obsessed with the idea of having that big heavyweight punch since its apparent nobody close to him can make him believe these 3 facts.
1. JT is not a naturally big man & the fact he was 200 in highschool just meant he was fat back then too. He will never be a 1-punch KO puncher no matter how fat or muscular he gets.
2. He had much more success as a lighter heavyweight when he was able to throw combinations and actually move a long, long 20lbs ago.
3. Avoiding a KO & showing how tough you are when you lose, is not a win. These are not high on the list of attributes of the title of "best fighter in the world."
The facts are where they are now. He obviously cannot return to a lower class, he's arguably lost his last 3 fights and he appears completely hopeless no matter who is in his corner. I don't know how Billy Banks allowed himself to escort that tub of crap into the ring. I suppose pity. Add his classless exit to the fight with the fact he can barely be understood anymore at all when he speaks & there is no real reason to keep him around.
Despite JT's string of career disappointments & being one of the most talented guys in this era, the fact remains that Peter must be given all due credit. JT did one thing positive in all this which is make Peter a much better fighter. Peter did exactly what the bigger man must do to the smaller man as what physics usually plays out in most cases.
The transformation may not be complete yet but Peter is not just the stiff wild swinging gorilla that he used to be. He has learned to pack up his home run shots & shorten up his punches (which will still KO most heavies). His defense has tightened up & he's finally doing the road work he hated which supposedly was part of the reasons Atlas refused to train him.
It was better for boxing for Peter to gain & move on from these fights as he will prove to be the much more marketable prospect with much more longevity than JT would ever have. It was also better for JT to be shown a solid exit to boxing than one marred in controversy. Regardless of what he said, this is going to be a tough one for JT swallow. Hopefully he takes his exit before his speech gets any worse & takes anymore thumping from guys he is too fat to move away from. I'm guessing he won't since he respects nobody, himself included.
I was shocked to see Rivera pulling straight back from Simms without angling over to either side and ripping in counters.
Simms couldn't miss the guy with a left as Rivera ducked into most of them, and Rivera really didn't have a clue as how to go about fighting a lefthander.
He should have jumped on Simms and ripped those hooks underneath to setup straight rights, but instead stood straight up and stiff as a board trying to box with a southpaw which is a no no.

By the way, Karl, in talking with Dalia--who's Roberto Duran's daughter--she told me that she knew that Rivera was in trouble when she watched him in an open workout prior to his fight with Simms. She said that Rivera looked robotic and that he sparred on the wrong side of the ring for a left hander. She shared this with a writer, who was Puerto Rican and dismissed her remarks, saying that Rivera would be fine.
Afterwards, the writer told Dalia that he needed the numbers for the Lotto and could she get those for him, too...

There looks to be at least about 45 lbs of unusable fat on James Toney from that picture. His sides, arms, mid belly, lower belly, lower back, face, neck, My GodI do not know how he can carry that and more around on him without his health just going. His heart must be straining to pump blood through all that excess weight, let alone box.
That's his next marketing angle.
Once JT finally gets his ass knocked out, next he'll find a way to brag about the fact no one can make him die of a heart attack in the ring.

FROM ICE: Jose didnt spar at all in Florida for the fight. He shadowboxed and jumped rope during the open workout.
Actually, Jose did exactly what he was supposed to do against a left hander...he forced Simms to go to his own left.....unfortunately for Jose Simms was unusually adept (for a southpaw) at moving to his own left. If Jose moved to his own right to cut Simms off he would have walked full force into the big left hand of Simms. His biggest problem was the boxing style of Simms, the quick counters... reacting to that ("sliding in and ripping shots") is quite a bit easiser said than done for most people
Simms was definalty on that night. I was very impressed by this win over a very good fighter. His hand speed and quick feet will be a huge asset against anyone in that division right now. If he keeps this momentum up and doesn't take another long lay-off he's going to be very hard to beat.
A Simms-Kassim Ouma fight would be an excelent match-up IMO.

Wow. I doubt Dalia was lying, as she seems very forthcoming to me. It sounds like there was a miscommunication. Maybe when she described the open workout, Dalia meant he moved to the wrong side when he was moving around the ring. Or perhaps she was describing his moving around the ring and I misunderstood her to be describing a sparring session. Well, either way.... Jose was moving properly all through camp, at the pubic training AND in the fight..... one thing we didnt count on was that Simms would as adept as he was at moving to HIS right while still in the southpaw stance.
Interesting. Do you think, knowing what you know now, with the proper adjustments, Jose would have a reasonable chance at overcoming Simms in a rematch?
