You can't deny the effectiveness and longevity of his career. PeteLeo.
Notice how I edited my initial response on this topic? It was Jim MacKay, not Curt Gowdy, who told TV Guide that he thought boxing should be banned (after it no longer was a recurring feature on "Wide World of Sports," naturally -- MacKay certainly had no qualms about introducing that "awful" exercise when he was hosting the show and fistfighting was drawing big ratings for ABC). I was wondering what you were talking about
Frank B.
As I recall, the network bigwigs treated
Curt Gowdy shabbily towards the end of
his career, giving him humiliating
assignments. He was a class act and
I am sure that all fans will miss him.
I hope that Gowdy's family, friends,
and listeners will accept my
condolences.

I have very fond memories of listening to Gowdy and Kubek and Garagiola on "Game of the Week" on lazy Saturday afternoons.
When you listen to today's abrasive, trying too hard to be clever & non-stop verbiage, announcer's - it makes you realise how easy on the ears Mr. Gowdy was.
R.I.P. Curt Gowdy. A life well lived ...
