Prime Meldrick Taylor vs Prime Shane Mosley
This would have been a great match up of combinations and speed! Who do you think would of got the win?

I would pick Mosley by D , but in full discloser, i come with a bias since i known Shane since he was about 8 or 9 years old, later on when he was 17-18 he used to sparr with my sons, Frankie and Tony at the Baldwin Park Boys Club gym.
An i have to say that i like Shane as a person and his dad Jack too Frank B. |

I think Mosley does everything as good, if not better than Meldrick. He hits harder I think and is stronger physically. These are the telling points to the fight.

You know Taylor is becoming underrated and forgotten for what he once was.Look at who he beat on his way up and it was alot of good boxers. He was kicking a prime Chavez's ass until he got stopped. That bout also ruined him as the punishment that he sustained in that bout.Anything after Chavez 1 and Taylor wasn't at his best.

Taylor shouldnt have been stopped either, he would have finished that bout, i mean with the little time that was left why not just let him finish and get the win he worked his ass off for? He was something else before that first Chavez fight too, a very large talent..

Re: Prime Meldrick Taylor vs Prime Shane Mosley
I think Mosely was better at everything than Taylor was.

Re: Prime Meldrick Taylor vs Prime Shane Mosley
I am a huge Mosley fan, but I think Meldrick would have outpointed him. Mosley was stronger, but Meldrick was faster and could throw way more punches. And a prime Meldrick's chin was good enough to take it. That said, Mosley was faster than Chavez, so who knows.

Fuck, this is a stumper. My kneejerk was Taylor because I am a romantic. Mosley's body punching is my favorite aspect of his game.
I cannot imagine Taylor inside with Mosley for an extended amout of time. Taylor is faster, no question, however he will need smarts as well. Give me Mosley. Smarter and that is all I can go from. How about Taylor-De la Hoya. |

Mosley. Taylor was fast (so was Shane) and terrific at angles, but he couldn't punch his way out of a paper bag. That is the difference in this fight.

Re: Prime Meldrick Taylor vs Prime Shane Mosley
And defense. Taylor sure was an easy guy to hit. And usually the speedsters are not. He just seemed to be one of those guys that's like an 85% offense type guy. He could've lowered that percentage and concentrated more on defense and likely would never have got hit so much and still won. Holding those hands up wouldn't have hurt either.
At the end of the day, I think mosely has an easier time connecting thru the Taylor defense than vice versa, for the decision win. |
